GENERAL QUESTIONS

Are the tests nationally accepted?

Most states, including North Carolina, accept the CAT/5, & the TerraNova tests.

Can I test my Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grader?

Yes. CAT/5 offers gr. K - 3 tests (answers are marked on separate answer sheets).

Can I (the parent/teacher) administer the tests?

Yes, you (as the homeschool teacher), can administer the test(s) in the privacy of your own homeschool. There is no advanced degree required to administer the test(s).

Are the TerraNova tests common core aligned?

No, the TerraNova tests we offer are not common core aligned.  The only common core aligned TerraNova test is a special edition of TerraNova3 and the publisher has not made it available for use by homeschools/private schools.

Can my student use a calculator for the math test(s)?

Some math tests clearly state "No Calculators Allowed". Other math tests says "Calculators Are Allowed". Consider the following statement made by the publisher: "Four-Function Calculator- The decision to use a calculator, or not, should be based on your standard classroom practices. Test questions have been designed and adequate time has been provided, so that using a calculator will not offer any particular advantage."

When will I receive my test materials?

No matter how far in advance you place your order, you can expect to receive your test materials about 5 - 10 days before the start of your specified test week.

Is there any benefit to placing an order well in advance of when I plan to test?

Yes! Inventory changes throughout the season, so ordering early will give you the advantage of making sure you can order exactly what you want/need.

How long can I keep the test materials?

From the time you receive the test materials until the end of your specified test week.

Late returns: What if I need additional time before returning my test materials?

Please notify us ASAP by email or by phone to arrange an extension. Extensions are given for emergency situations or illness. Unreasonable delays will result in a late fee.

Damage occurred to the test book(s) while in my possession. What should I do?

No matter how badly damaged, DO NOT throw away any test books! Discarding of any test booklets is considered to be a breach of test security. Return all testing materials to us. We will assess the level of damage and determine an appropriate fee.

When will I get my test results?

Once we receive the test materials back, the test results are typically mailed to you within 1 - 2 weeks.

 

TEST VERSIONS:   SURVEY  vs. COMPLETE BATTERY

I heard the Survey is not a complete test. Is this true?

No, this is not true. The Survey version contains all the same subjects as the Complete Battery, it simply has less questions to allow for faster testing.

Are the Survey and Complete Battery equally accepted by states?

Yes. Both versions are Nationally Standardized, and equally accepted.

How do I know which version to choose?

It is up to the parent/teacher to decide which version to choose. The Survey allows for shorter testing time, and is especially recommended for students with test anxiety or a shorter attention span. The Complete Battery has more questions than the Survey, making the test longer to complete. Students who enjoy testing or teachers who want more questions asked of the student(s) may want to consider the Complete Battery. The Survey version and the Complete Battery version both cover the same subjects.

 

PLACING AN ORDER

What types of payment are accepted?

We accept payments including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express debit and credit cards. (Thurber's Educational Assessments uses PayPal to securely process your credit/debit card payment). We also accept personal checks, money orders, and cashier's check via mail.

I need to change/cancel my order. What should I do?

Please contact us right away by EMAIL (we need changes/cancellations in written/typed form).

I'm having a problem placing an order or making a payment. What should I do?

Please contact us right away by email or by phone, to let us know about the problem you are experiencing, so we can help resolve the issue.

I want to order more than one type of test (such as CAT/5 and TerraNova). Do I need to place two separate orders?

Yes. This is because we have a separate order form for each type of test. HOWEVER, it is not necessary to make separate payments (further instructions are provided to you, before payment is submitted).

 

SHIPPING & DELIVERY

When will I receive my test materials?

No matter how far in advance you place your order, you can expect to receive your test materials about 5 - 10 days before the start of your specified test week.

I received my test materials early. Can I start testing before my specified test date?

Yes! If you choose to administer testing before your specified week, please mail the materials back to us as soon as testing is complete.

How should I return my testing materials?

Please use the USPS Priority envelope or the USPS Priority label, that was included in your order, to return the testing materials (typically, your return name/address is already printed for you). Alternatively, you are welcome to use another shipping carrier such as UPS or FedEx, but please make sure your return name/address on the envelope matches the name/address that was provided to us on your testing order form (if it isn't clear on the envelope who returned the testing materials to us, your test results may be delayed).

 

REFUNDS

I placed an order & made a payment. Now I need to cancel my order. Can I get a refund?

Once we have shipped your test order, no refunds are given. If your order has not already been shipped, a partial refund/credit may be given, on an individual basis.
